Reduces the effort to build and collect cards and gives you a chance to earn rewards fast. One of the most exciting and dynamic aspects of this competitive scene is the growing number of MTGA tournaments. Whether you’re an experienced artist or just starting to create, the platform welcomes all. The wide variety of offerings means there’s something for every type of player—whether you prefer sleek professional accessories or fun, whimsical designs.
FRIDAY NIGHT MAGIC
Maybe you flipped through the tokens at your last prerelease and found a card about Arena. Some of these events will share a theme, with two different territories featuring the same Spotlight Series event. We're looking forward to bringing thrilling gameplay to more regions. And yes, that means we'll be hosting more global events, bringing the Spotlight Series to even more territories outside the United States, Europe, and Japan. But as fans celebrate Magic in Las Vegas, we're already gearing up for 2026's MagicCons—and more! We announced our 2026 lineup of events during the Preview Panel, along with some exciting plans for the future of Magic events.
Get in a queue and let the matchmaking system work in MTG Arena. There’s some behind-the-scenes magic that makes the ranking system work and will match you up with players of a similar skill level. Best of three or best of one can be summarized as traditional play vs. ranked play, and you can literally toggle between these two. Take the wildcards you earn as you open packs, the daily rewards and quest system, then the weekly rewards, then the seasonal rewards and annual renewal. You can play against your friends on MTG Arena, the mode you need is Direct Challenge.
This MagicCon focuses on Modern Horizons 3 and the Pro Tour's happening right at this Con. This one featured a $75k Standard Open, Pro Tour Murders at Karlov Manor, and a bunch of neat events themed around this new Murder mystery set. Regional Championships are your next step towards the Pro Tour. You can think of them as PTQs if you’re an old system veteran. You have to qualify for an RC by winning an RCQ, and then place well to advance to the Pro Tour next year. All participants in an RC are gifted a cool yearly promo, with foils going to top finishers.
A common problem is “authentication failed” and you need to know how to fix the authentication failed error. Another completed fix addresses “Error Updating Data” thank goodness there are steps to resolve it. Sometimes your MTGA quests are missing, you have a few things to try to make them reappear. Another common issue you might have is finding out that you have several different versions of MTGA installed. Or if you have a specific part of your game you're looking to improve, use our table of contents to jump ahead to the section where you need the most help. There’s a lot to take in from today’s announcements, and so far, the community’s reaction commander deck has been largely positive to the return to the Organized Play systems of the past.
MTGetsy draws inspiration from platforms like Etsy but is fully dedicated to the Magic community. It’s not about just buying and selling cards—it’s about finding one-of-a-kind, handcrafted items that enhance the MTG experience. Sellers showcase their skills with hand-painted alters, themed deck boxes, custom playmats, and more. Players, in turn, get to personalize their game in ways that mass-produced products simply can’t offer.
Arena Opens
Perfect for new players, this will get you familiar with a format used at events of all levels. Standard is a dynamic format where you build decks and play using cards in your collection from recently released Magic sets. Wizards' Store and Event Locator used to be my first stop for finding stores/events in my area. Simply enter your zip/address and the site will give you all the best MTG spots in your area. Feel free to give them a call as well to confirm any relevant event details.
Your limited rank changes based on your performance in any draft or sealed events you do. These are events run on Melee by Crokeyz, a popular MTGA streamer and content creator. The tournament features a variety of formats including Standard, Historic, and Limited and is open to all players. Crokeyz usually provides game commentary through this tournament and broadcasts it live on Twitch. While not tied to the formal competitive play structure, Arena Opens are a popular way to engage with the game competitively.
2 Online Retailers and Local Marketplaces
MOCS Opens can take you directly there, while smaller Qualifier events have been an option for a PPTQ to PTQ-style entry. You should always use play points instead of tickets to enter events because of their lack of liquidity. Ten play points are roughly equivalent to $1 given Event Ticket rates to enter events. They’re a secondary currency that can only be used to enter events. They have no use for the secondary market as you can’t sell or trade them. You can farm event tickets by selling unused cards or product to bots, or just buy them via Magic Online or third-party vendors.
This year’s MOCS is Modern Cube/Pioneer, but the format varies from year to year, The last one was Vintage Cube/Modern. It’s a long haul to qualify for the MOCS but is well worth it if you play a lot of Magic Online. Super Qualifiers are usually between seven to nine rounds with a cut to top 8 and then a top 8 playoff. The winner qualifies for the next Regional Championship, but even those who just top 8 are paid out fairly well ($150+ in value with $600 in value going to first).
Official events are by no means the only way to compete on MTG Arena. MTG Melee is a very popular third-party website that helps connect players to all sorts of available Magic tournaments. As you win more and more matches you eventually hit cash prizes of $1k to $2.5k depending on record.
If you are making Arena-only purchases, there are the 4 best places to buy MTG Arena Codes online. In Pioneer you have a true-to-paper digital version of post-Return to Ravnica Magic, and in Gladiator you have a fan-made format that has no commander and 100 singleton cards. If you love that there is always a way to Draft on MTGA, you want Draftsim’s ultimate guide to Draft. Because of your interest in draft, you also might like the ultimate guide to sealed, it’s twice the packs, but no picking or passing. Look ahead in the MTG Arena calendar and you’ll see lots of events, some for eternal formats and some that rotate. It is always handy to keep track of the Standard Rotation even if it’s just to rule out what you will not be facing.
One gripe to note is that MTGA needs a dusting system to trade in unused or extra cards. Having a designer pick you out a rack of jackets gets closer to what Arena Cube is like, so there’s no shame in checking out the guide. Cube is a complex collection of curated cards that are drafted in a phantom event (meaning you don’t keep the cards you draft). The design space is huge for cubes since they can be created with any theme in mind.
