From the opening track “Angel’s Fear” to the ever-uplifting “The Color of the Summer Sky” and the explosive climactic track “Meridian Dance”, every song in Secret of Mana is bursting with emotion and character. Even individual characters have received their own spin-offs like Luigi's Mansion, WarioWare, and Yoshi's Crafted World. While Mega Man might not be as popular today as he used to be, there was a time when you couldn't go a year without seeing his face on the cover of a new game. Created by Capcom, the first game in the series launched on the NES in 1987 and introduced a non-linear way of playing games through its "level select" feature. While the stories in each game are vastly different, they usually feature similar characters, themes, and gameplay mechanics.
The Legend of Zelda is one of the best series in all of gaming, so it's only natural that players would enjoy other similar titles. Kratos’ barbaric acts of heroism across the God of War series became defining moments for PlayStation gamers. Each game pits Kratos against more grandiose Gods and obstacles, yet the action experience never reaches diminishing returns. The main God of War series is exceptional, but the handheld installments for the PSP and PS Vita don’t sacrifice any quality and are some of the standout entries on the systems. Metroid is one half of a genre that changed gaming — the Metroidvania — and it arguably did most of the lifting.

When a young boy discovers a mysterious sword near a waterfall by his home village, he hears a voice compelling him to take it into his hands. Pulling the sword free from the stone it is stuck in, the young boy inadvertently set forth events into motion that would lead him all across the world. Secret of Mana was exceptional as it blended classic action RPG fare with multiplayer gameplay, a robust magic system, and a vibrant, breathing world. Sora’s story is continued as he battles against the Heartless and the mysterious Organization XIII, leading to unforgettable sequences like the epic Battle of 1000 Heartless.
Like The Chao, these characters - we're in Tokyo, we know we can take advantage of this culture that really does celebrate anime and animated characters. And of course, if there's going to be a Chao-themed cafe, a restaurant, it's going to be in Tokyo. Once we had that idea, just watching the crew run with it and build out those ideas and craft this whole Chao-themed restaurant was so much fun. While it was not Square Enix’s decision to close Ouka Studios, it still sets a dark precedent for the Mana series.

With the formulaic heroes and villains of the early eras, studios are forced to approach games in new and flavorful ways to provide fresh gaming ideas and content. Necessity is the mother of invention, and that is on clear display with the forthcoming listed entries.
